I have always loved documentaries. I love the way that a good storyteller can take a subject that, on paper, may not seem interesting, and turn it in to a compelling film.
As many of you know, access to documentary films for the masses was limited pre-Netflix instant streaming. But now, at our fingertips, we have access to thousands of great documentaries.
I have always dreamt of making a documentary of my own, but I assumed it would be years before I had the opportunity. Then I few months ago, a friend and former Greenville College Football teammate Dom Kegel called me with an interesting idea.
He had just signed a deal with a professional football team in Finland, and was going to be moving from Omaha this summer to join the team. As a fellow documentary lover, he approached me with the idea of teaming up and making a film about Americans playing football in Europe. My answer, of course!
As Jordan and I worked planning for the film, the more we looked at it, the more we found that the most compelling story was not the story of Americans abroad, but in Dom himself.
Initially Dom did not like the idea of the film focusing on him. But when we shared that we felt that the most compelling story was his story, he agreed to let us share his story, in hope that it would provide inspiration for others.
So we are pleased to announce our upcoming documentary “Better“. We begin shooting Friday in Hunters, WA (Dom’s hometown) and then in Portland, OR later in the weekend.
We will also be shooting in Omaha NE, Seinajöki Finland, Canton OH, and Greenville IL.
This travel is expensive, and using our own funds and have also gotten some backing from some other parties, but we will be looking to Kickstarter later this summer to help us get this film finished.
So stay tuned for updates as we go! Follow us on Twitter for updates! @poundsmedia
